ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) – A fire tore through an Encinitas home late Thursday night, forcing the homeowner to rush to safety.

At around 11 p.m., firefighters were called to the 300 block of Stafford Avenue, near Cardiff Elementary School, in response to a fire burning a duplex.

As fire crews battled the blaze, nearby residences were evacuated. The fire also burned near live powerlines, prompting a response from San Diego Gas & Electric.

Crews were able to douse the flames after more than an hour but not before the fire destroyed a truck parked in the driveway.

The homeowner, who was the only person in the duplex, got out of the house but suffered a minor injury.

No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
