Man's death in Vista under investigation

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man died after apparently being shot in Vista Thursday night, sparking a sheriff’s investigation.

According to San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials, the incident was reported just after 9:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of S. Santa Fe Avenue, just northeast of state Route 78.

Sheriff’s officials said a security guard on patrol in the area discovered a man lying in the parking lot and not breathing. The security guard believed the man had been shot.

Emergency crews arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but the man died at the scene.

Sheriff’s officials made contact with several potential witnesses, but no other updates on the investigation were released.

The victim was not immediately identified.
