ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, deputies received a phone call for help from a female at a residence in the 1200 block of Greenlake Dr., in Encinitas. The initial report was that the female's adult son, who is in his fifties, threatened her with a knife. The female reportedly screamed for help and her husband came to her aid. Upon seeing the son threatening his mother with the knife, the husband armed himself with a gun and reportedly shot the son. Deputies and paramedics arrived and the son was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The mother, who is in her seventies, was not injured. The father, who is also in his seventies, is being questioned by detectives about this incident. This is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the community.
