LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) - A man suspected of trying to break into a Rolando-area restaurant was arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in a crash in La Mesa.
At around 1:30 a.m., San Diego police received a report of a possible break-in attempt at the Daily Grind Café at 6695 El Cajon Blvd.
Responding officers arrived to find an ATM that had been ripped apart and saw a car speeding out of the café’s parking lot.
Police tried to get the driver to stop, but he refused and sped east towards La Mesa.
Near 73rd and Amherst streets, the car crashed into a fence and some parked vehicles before coming to a stop.
The crash left the driver trapped in the wreckage, but police pulled him out and took him into custody.
Police said officers found tools in the man’s car that may have been used to remove the ATM, but he did not get away with any money.
