SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man was arrested after police said he carjacked a pickup truck in downtown San Diego and then led officers on a high-speed chase.
At around 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, San Diego police received a report of a carjacking incident at 10th Avenue and A Street in which the owner of a pickup truck had his vehicle taken from him at knifepoint.
The truck was equipped with a tracking device that allowed officers to track it as it traveled south on Interstate 805 towards San Ysidro.
The driver then went northbound on I-805 when officers spotted the truck near Palm Avenue and pursued it.
After exiting on Home Avenue, the driver got onto Euclid Avenue but then crashed into a fence and struck a tree near Orange Avenue.
The driver tried to run away, but officers corralled him and took him into custody.
