SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man had to be rescued from his truck early Wednesday morning after crashing on the southbound state Route 163 ramp to southbound Interstate 5.

The wreck involving two vehicles occurred at around 5:30 a.m. on the transition ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The cause of the crash is unknown, but emergency crews were called to the scene after receiving reports of a man trapped inside a crushed pickup truck that had overturned.

Using the Jaws of Life, it took crews nearly 20 minutes to extract the victim from the wreckage.

The unidentified man was rushed to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

No other injuries were reported.

The crash and subsequent cleanup forced authorities to close the southbound SR-163 ramp to southbound I-5 during the busy morning commute.

All affected lanes were reopened at around 7 a.m.
