SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead outside of a Rolando-area taco shop late Sunday evening.

At around 10 p.m., San Diego police were called to the 6100 block of University Avenue in response to reports of multiple shots being fired and a person down.

Witnesses told responding officers that an argument broke out outside the eatery and then gunfire erupted.

A 24-year-old man was shot and rushed to the hospital, but 10News learned he died upon arrival.

Witnesses also pointed out to officers a truck possibly linked to the shooting, but the vehicle fled the scene.

Police pursued the truck on several surface streets before it entered westbound Interstate 8. When the truck reached Waring Road, police were able to pull the truck over on the freeway lanes.

At least two people were detained for questioning, but it remains unclear if any arrests were made in connection with the shooting.

SDPD’s Homicide Unit is investigating the incident.
