SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A man was struck and killed by a vehicle while crossing a South Bay street Thursday night, and San Diego police said the driver who left the scene contacted them hours later, but no arrests were made.
Police said the unidentified man was crossing Palm Avenue, but not in the crosswalk, at around 8:45 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle in the westbound lanes.
According to police, the vehicle -- described as a maroon-colored SUV, possibly a Jeep or Chrysler, and had a broken headlight and front-end damage -- continued westbound as the victim lay in the center divider.
The victim, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said a 35-year-old woman called them hours after the incident and informed investigators that she hit something.
The incident is under investigation, and 10News learned no one has been arrested as of early Friday morning.
Police say they are looking for the hit and run driver. No word on suspect vehicle or victim’s status. There is a shoe about 70 yards from the crosswalk in the westbound lane of Palm Ave. @10News pic.twitter.com/mg0zuJt6jQ
