Man driving on Clairemont street shot, crashes near fire station

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A driver was shot while traveling on a Clairemont street Thursday night, according to police.

At around 10:30 p.m., a man was driving in the 5800 block of Chateau Drive when he was hit by gunfire, San Diego police said.

ABC 10News learned the injured man was able to drive a few blocks before the SUV crashed into an electrical box in front of San Diego Fire-Rescue Station 36.

Firefighters and paramedics at the station heard the crash and rushed to help the victim, who had at least one gunshot wound on his upper body.

The unidentified victim was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, but his condition is unknown as of 9 a.m. Friday.

Police said witnesses reported seeing a silver 4-door sedan leaving the shooting scene.
