SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Kentucky man accused of traveling to San Diego to have sex with a 14-year-old boy is in custody after his arrest in Arizona, according to an FBI affidavit.

Carlie Joe Bentley, 49, met the boy through an online dating app, FBI Special Agent Kristin Robinson reported.

Bentley checked into a San Diego motel Dec. 30 and stayed with the boy for two days, Robinson wrote. The boy later showed others photographs of himself with Bentley, saying the two had engaged in sexual activity, and indicated there were videos, according to the affidavit.

Two weeks later, the boy left a note for his family to tell them he was running away from home, relatives told the FBI. The boy's family found out from friends he was with an older man and planned to return at spring break or when he turned 18 years old, Robinson wrote.

Law enforcement officers tracked Bentley to Arizona, where he was spotted on I-10 in the Phoenix area with the boy. When he stepped out of the car to be arrested, his pants were unbuttoned and unzipped, court documents showed.

The FBI reported that Bentley admitted to the sexual abuse.

“The minor child is safe and has been reunited with family members,” said Davene Butler of the FBI.
