CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) – A man was arrested on suspicion of stabbing another man to death during a fight in a Chula Vista neighborhood, police announced Friday.

According to Chula Vista police, 19-year-old Dashawn Ignacio Mitchell, of Chula Vista, was taken into custody in connection with the death of 28-year-old Chula Vista resident Jose Orozco.

On July 24, at around 1:30 a.m., police were dispatched to the area of the 500 block of Flower Street after multiple 911 calls came in reporting a fight.

When officers arrived, they found Orozco with a stab wound to his upper body. Despite paramedics’ emergency medical measures, Orozco was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said surveillance video, witness statements and other information obtained during the investigation led them to identify Mitchell as the suspect in the case.

Mitchell was arrested and booked into San Diego County Jail on a murder charge, according to police.

Anyone with additional information on the case is asked to contact Chula Vista police at 619-691-5074.
