SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Hillcrest restaurant reopened Tuesday one week after a gunman opened fire into the crowded eatery.

At 5 p.m., staff reopened the doors to the Golden Dragon Asian Bistro on University Avenue, but damage from the attack still remained visible.

Restaurant workers were taking inventory on Monday but many customers stopped by to ask if they were open and were then served.

“People wanted to see us open, people wanted to see us and give their support. So we just said, whatever, open the doors and hopefully a lot of people walk by,” said Mike Tamarkin, whose father owns the Golden Dragon Asian Bistro.

Tamarkin told 10News that since the shooting they have received tons of phone calls from the community making sure they were OK and asking when they would reopen.

Stefano Markell Parker, 29, is accused of using a semi-automatic rifle to spray bullets into the crowded restaurant on Feb. 12. Parker was arrested and faces several felony charges.

Nobody was hurt during the shooting, but it closed the restaurant down for a week while the owner and staff fixed shattered glass and damaged walls.

The restaurant is now open from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. daily.
