SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A fire destroyed a garage and spread inside of a Santee home Tuesday morning, forcing a family and their pets to flee and sending smoke into the air that was visible for miles.
The fire was reported shortly before 8:45 a.m. at a home in the 10200 block of Woodrose Avenue, according to fire officials.
Smoke from the blaze was spotted as far away as the city of San Diego.
Firefighters were able to get a handle on the flames by 9:10 a.m., but the fire completely destroyed the home’s attached garage and damaged two cars parked in the driveway.
A family of four and their pets escaped the blaze without any serious injury, and the American Red Cross was summoned to the scene to assist the family.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
