EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A man was taken to the hospital Monday morning after a fire broke out at an El Cajon motel.
The fire was reported at 5 a.m. at the Relax Inn & Suites on 1220 W. Main St., according to fire officials.
Fire officials said crews from Heartland Fire & Rescue, Santee Fire and San Miguel Fire responded to the blaze.
Upon arrival, crews saw smoke and fire coming from a motel room on the downstairs level.
Firefighters saw a man “hanging from a bathroom window in the affected room,” and crews entered the room to help get him to safety.
The man was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center with smoke inhalation-related injuries.
Crews were able to knock down the fire within 8 minutes.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Bomb/Arson unit is investigating the cause of the fire.
Numerous guests and staff were evacuated due to the fire, but no other injuries were reported.
