Elderly pedestrian killed in Chula Vista hit-and-run

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a vehicle that struck and killed an elderly man on a Chula Vista street.

Just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Chula Vista police were called to the 700 block of East H Street due to a report of a pedestrian hit by a car.

Police said the 85-year-old Hispanic man was crossing southbound on the street when he apparently tripped and fell on the roadway. The pedestrian was then hit by an eastbound vehicle.

According to police, the vehicle that hit the man drove away following the collision; the car was described as a dark-colored 2015-2018 Toyota sedan.

Emergency responders found the man lying on the ground with multiple injuries; despite life-saving measures, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
