EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A drowsy driver veered off the road and struck several power poles in an El Cajon neighborhood Wednesday, causing the poles to lean in a precarious position and leaving some wires dangling.

The crash happened at around 1:45 a.m. in the 700 block of E. Chase Avenue, near Lincoln Avenue.

El Cajon police said the driver, who was on his way home from work, was traveling eastbound on Chase Avenue when he drifted across lanes, jumped a curb and slammed into several utility poles.

The impact caused the poles to bend, but they did not topple over. Some lines from the poles dangled down due to the crash.
Amazingly, the driver did not suffer any injuries. He was reportedly having trouble staying awake just before the wreck.

The incident is under investigation, and San Diego Gas & Electric crews were called to the scene to repair the poles and lines.
