Driver slams into parked car, takes out fire hydrant in National City

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after hitting a parked car and shearing a fire hydrant in National City.

The incident happened at around 10:30 p.m. in the 500 block of Palm Avenue, National City police said.

Police said the driver struck a parked car, damaged two others and then lost control.

The car careened into a fire hydrant, causing a geyser that reached up to 30 feet in the air and flooded surrounding streets.

Water crews were able to shut off the geyser after about 30 minutes.

The driver, who was placed under arrested, was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for minor injuries.
