LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - The mother of a crash victim is pleading for the driver of the car to come forward.

Monica Cloyd said her son, Michael Gutierrez, was severely injured Saturday morning on Wildcat Canyon Road near the Barona Casino when the driver of the car he was in crashed into a pole.

She says the car belonged to her son, a 23-year-old ironworker, but said he had been drinking so he gave his keys to his friend.

Earlier in the night, she said they had been at a party in La Jolla but her son’s friend ended up driving them to Barona instead of going home.

They made it to the casino, but on the way back, the car crashed along Wildcat Canyon Road.

Cloyd said a 16-year-old girl was also in the car and was seriously injured.

The man who was driving ran from the scene, according to Cloyd. She said authorities have not been able to locate him. A fourth person was in the car, but only had minor injuries.

“He needs to man up and turn himself and do the right thing,” said Cloyd.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the CHP or the Sheriff’s Department.
