OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A driver was rescued and airlifted to the hospital after slamming into the back of a semi-truck on Interstate 5 in the Oceanside area.
The crash happened early Thursday morning on southbound I-5 near Harbor Drive, authorities said.
While the cause of the collision is under investigation, the crash left the car wedged under the back of the semi-truck.
Responding firefighters used the Jaws of Life to get the driver out of the wreckage, and freeway lanes were shut down as a medical helicopter landed to airlift the driver to a hospital in La Jolla.
California Highway Patrol officers at the scene said the driver suffered serious injuries in the crash but they did not appear to be life threatening.
