LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) - A fiery crash off a Lakeside road Tuesday is being investigated as a possible hit-and-run.

The crash was reported at around 2:45 a.m. off southbound Wildcat Canyon Road, near the Barona Casino, according to the California Highway Patrol.

When emergency crews arrived at the crash scene, they saw an overturned Ford Mustang in flames off the road with no one inside.

A stretch of Wildcat Canyon Road was shut down until just after 5:30 a.m. as crews worked to put out the car fire. The vehicle fire sparked a small brush fire, but crews were able to quickly put it out.

From their initial findings, CHP officials believe the Mustang was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck a raised concrete curb, causing it to overturn onto its roof. CHP officials are looking into witness reports that the Mustang may have been racing with another vehicle just before the crash.

Investigators are still searching for the driver and are hoping more witnesses come forward with information.
