LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) – The San Diego Food Bank is holding a drive-thru food and toilet paper distribution event Friday morning at Grossmont Center in La Mesa.
With the event starting at 9 a.m., Food Bank officials said they will have enough food and supplies for the first 1,000 vehicles that show up to the shopping center on 5500 Grossmont Center Drive.
Each vehicle (which represent one household) will receive 40 pounds of food, toilet paper, paper towels, baby wipes, and other necessities.
According to Food Bank officials, the groceries include: One gallon of milk, canned peaches, canned green beans, canned peas, canned tomato sauce, canned vegetable soup, canned cream of mushroom soup, canned salmon, canned chilli, a bag of fruit and nut mix (1 lb.), elbow macaroni, a bag of pears, a bag of apples, a bag of oranges, a pineapple, and a watermelon. In addition, attendees will receive a family-pack of toilet paper, paper towels, and baby wipes.
Food bank officials those attending the event must enter Grossmont Center from Jackson Drive.
With the event being drive-thru style, attendees are urged to stay in their vehicles with windows rolled up. Event volunteers will put the donated items in the trunk of each vehicle.
The event will run until all food and supplies are distributed.
