SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Roads near Sharp Memorial Hospital in the Birdland area were blocked after a water main break flooded streets Wednesday night.
A 10-inch diameter water main broke just before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Health Center Drive and Frost Street, forcing road closures.
While they replace the pipe, Frost Street will be closed to traffic, and there will be delays on Health Center Drive, as one lane of traffic will be shut down.
Crews were able to shut the water off after about 45 minutes. The gushing water caused a stream of water to rush down Health Center Drive.
Sharp Mary Birch, the hospital for women and newborns, reported losing water pressure for a brief period. Sharp Memorial officials said the water main break did not impact patients or services.
A company contracted with the city of San Diego said they replaced a water main in the same location two weeks ago, making it possible that work is linked to this water main break.
The company said they were aiming to get repair work finished by 5 a.m. Thursday.
