OTAY MESA, Calif. (KGTV) – A computer outage in Mexico forced a closure at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry, causing a backup of commercial trucks trying to make their way south of the border.
California Highway Patrol officials first reported the issue shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday, saying the commercial truck entrance at the Otay Mesa POE was shut down “due to a nationwide computer outage” in Mexico.
Details on the outage in Mexico were not immediately available.
The closure of the truck entrance led to a long line of big rigs and other commercial vehicles on eastbound state Route 905, with the backup stretching as far back as Britannia Boulevard.

CHP Officer Jim Bettancourt reported that the outage was resolved and the border entrance would be reopened, but the lengthy backup was expected to linger for several hours.
