CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — A Chula Vista family is back together after six family members suffered coronavirus symptoms for weeks.

Erik Hoyo tells 10News his family was taking all the precautions recommended by health officials. Hoyo was the only one leaving the house to go to work. He was the first to get sick with a fever and then his wife started showing symptoms. His mother-in-law and three children also started getting sick. The family's three-old-old did not get sick. He was sent to stay with family until everyone recovered.

Erik was the only one who was able to get tested for COVID-19, after his parents called for an ambulance while he was experiencing a hard time breathing.

His wife also had to go to the emergency room but she was not tested. Their kids, ages 15, 17, and 20 were not able to get tested either.

Hoyo says each family member experienced different symptoms. He says his kids lost their sense of taste and smell and had fever, but didn't experience shortness of breath. Hoyo says the hardest thing for him, was experiencing difficulty breathing.

Fortunately, no one in the family had to be hospitalized and they are now all back home, symptom free.
