SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A car crashed into a stalled vehicle on state Route 94 in the Mount Hope area, starting a chain-reaction crash that blocked multiple lanes.
The wreck occurred at around 2:15 a.m. Monday on eastbound SR-94 near Interstate 15, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP officials said a motorist called 911 because his car ran out of gas and stalled in the slow lane.
As the 10News Breaking News Tracker arrived at the scene, an oncoming car struck the stalled vehicle and then flipped onto its roof.
Numerous other vehicles swerved out of the way to avoid the wreckage, but a white sedan was unable to maneuver in time and slammed into the overturned car.
Several people pulled over to help those involved in the crash, including the white sedan’s female driver. She was hospitalized with injuries of unknown severity.
10News learned one motorist who almost sped through the crash scene was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The crash is under investigation.
