CHULA VISTA, Calif. (CNS) - A driver who sped away from officers attempting to stop him for traffic violations was killed in Chula Vista when his car struck a curb at high speeds and overturned several times, ejecting him from the vehicle.
Police say the unidentified man was driving a white BMW 325i at 12:19 a.m., when officers tried to pull him over near Third Avenue and H Street "for speed and red-light violations," according to Chula Vista Police Lt. Scott Adkins.
The lieutenant said the driver fled, then lost control of his car while trying to turn left onto K Street from Third Avenue. The BMW struck a curb and rolled over "numerous times," landing in the Bank of America parking lot at 801 Third Avenue, Adkins said.
The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. His identity remains withheld pending notification of his family.
