SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A car was found fully engulfed in flames on state Route 52 early Thursday morning, but authorities were unable to locate the driver.

At around 4:20 a.m., California Highway Patrol officers were called to a vehicle fire on westbound SR-52, just east of Santo Road, in the Tierrasanta area.

As flames raged, CHP officers broke a side window to check if anyone was inside, but no one was found.

Firefighters were able to knock down the blaze in about 5 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
