EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A car veered off an El Cajon street and crashed into the backyard of a home early Wednesday morning, nearly landing in a swimming pool.

The crash was reported at around 1:15 a.m. in the 8600 block of Castano Lane, according to authorities.

Authorities said a male driver lost control of his Ford Mustang as he took a turn on Ridge Hill Road at Castano Lane, causing the vehicle to go off the roadway.

The car smashed through a fence and tumbled down an embankment before coming to rest just inches from a backyard pool.

Following field sobriety tests, the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

A female passenger, who nearly fell into the swimming pool as she exited the vehicle, was helped by several witnesses and got a ride from California Highway Patrol officers.

No one was injured in the incident.
