SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A brush fire believed to have started in a homeless encampment burned towards a Bay Ho apartment complex, but crews were able to put out the flames quickly.
At around 6 a.m. Tuesday, San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded to reports of a fire in a canyon off Balboa Avenue, near Moraga Avenue.
Crews were able to douse the fire before it spread towards the Villa Monair apartments, but the response forced the closure of nearby streets.
San Diego police closed the following streets due to the fire response: Westbound Balboa Ave. at Moraga Ave. and northbound Morena Blvd. on-ramp to westbound Garnet Ave.
The affected streets were expected to be reopened by 7 a.m.
Firefighters believe the fire was sparked in a homeless encampment in the canyon, but the incident is under investigation.
