DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - A big rig with two trailers jack-knifed on southbound Interstate 5 in Del Mar early Thursday morning, spilling gasoline onto a freeway embankment.
The crash happened at 3:15 a.m. at Via de la Valle as heavy rain moved through the area.
One of the trailers overturned and was left resting on top of the guardrail at the San Dieguito lagoon.
A gas tank ruptured on the semi, and firefighters worked to build a dirt dam to prevent some 70 gallons of fuel from spilling into the storm drain and lagoon.
