SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Hillcrest Business Association is making some changes to the Pride kickoff party this year they hope will make the event more inclusive.

According to Benjamin Nicholls, the association’s Executive Director, entry to the event won’t be limited to those 21 and up this year.

“We just felt it was a little odd to say ‘oh under 21 you can’t come,’ so we took down the fences and made it all ages,” Benjamin said.

On top of taking down the fence that normally surrounds the event, entry will also be donation based.

“What we want to do is we want to take down the barriers to entry and that means physically taking down the fences and also charging nothing for folks to get in,” Nicholls added.

Nicholls says he hopes the changes will get more people involved.

Pride this year will be held on July 12, 13 and 14.
