VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A driver was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash in Vista that sent a 12-year-old boy to the hospital.

San Diego County sheriff’s officials announced Thursday that a person was located and taken into custody Wednesday afternoon on suspicion of felony hit-and-run stemming from the incident that occurred on Feb. 25.

At around 4:45 p.m. on that day, a 12-year-old boy was walking in the 1000 block of Mar Vista Drive when a car struck him and drove away.

The boy was airlifted to Rady Children’s Hospital after suffering injuries to his right leg and cuts to his face. He was conscious and responsive while being treated at the scene.

Investigators determined that the car involved was a white 2019 or 2020 Toyota sedan with likely damage to the right mirror and possible front-end damage.

With help from a tip provided through Crime Stoppers, sheriff’s officials said deputies descended on the 3500 block of Windrift Way and found a white 2016 Toyota Corolla “with consistent damage.”

Deputies made contact with the car’s owner for questioning, and it was determined that the owner was behind the wheel of the Corolla at the time of the crash.

The driver’s identity was not released.
