SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An armed student was arrested at Valhalla High School in El Cajon on Friday afternoon.

Around 2:15 p.m., a student told a school resource officer that he had seen a male student with a handgun and loaded magazine inside his classroom on the campus located at 1725 Hillsdale Road.

According to the San Diego Sheriff's Department, the armed student walked away from the school shortly after that and was detained by deputies.

The student did not have a gun and said he had never had one, according to the Sheriff's Department.

Deputies searched the area for the handgun but didn't find it.

Deputies had brought the student home to release him to his mother when school staff found the gun and a loaded magazine on campus.

The magazine had one round in it and was inserted backward into the handgun.

The student was arrested, taken to Rancho San Diego Station for processing and later booked into Juvenile Hall.
