5 Marines hurt in Southern California highway rollover

MENIFEE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say five U.S. Marines have been slightly injured when their truck went off a Southern California highway.

Authorities say the truck was towing a trailer with an artillery gun when it went off Interstate 215 in Menifee in Riverside County at around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

It rolled down an embankment and landed on its side.

The Marines on board were treated for minor injuries.

Major Roger Hollenbeck told ABC 10News that the personnel was stationed at 29 Palms headed to Camp Pendleton for an exercise.

"A 1st Marine Division convoy was traveling from 29 Palms to Camp Pendleton to participate in an exercise when a 7-ton truck towing an artillery piece traveled off of Highway 215 in Menifee on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 8. Five personnel were transported to local hospitals for minor injuries, an investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the accident."
