SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two men were hospitalized after a high-speed chase ended in a violent crash in the Tierrasanta area early Tuesday morning.

According to San Diego police, officers were responding to reports of a robbery in which two men in a black Dodge Charger pulled up to a pedestrian on Tait Street in Linda Vista and robbed him of his smartphone.

A police helicopter spotted the Charger running red lights before it entered state Route 163. As the vehicle reached speeds over 100 MPH, it transitioned to eastbound state Route 52.

After getting onto Santo Road, the Charger crashed into a waiting police cruiser at a high rate of speed but kept going. Officers in the patrol vehicle were not injured but the car was badly damaged.

The Charger lost control on Shields Street and slammed into a traffic signal pole.

Two men in the Charger were injured and taken to the hospital, but 10News learned they are expected to be OK.

City News Service reported the two men were arrested.
