SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A 31-year-old man was killed after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 805 in the North Park area.

The crash happened at around 12:45 a.m. Monday on southbound I-805 near El Cajon Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said a white Kia sedan was involved in a collision with a GMC box truck, blocking at least one lane.

According to CHP officials, the drivers of the Kia and box truck both got out and were walking on the freeway lanes when an oncoming Mercedes-Benz slammed into the disabled truck.

The impact of the collision sent the box truck into the Kia's driver, and CHP officials said the Kia's driver was declared dead at the scene.

The 56-year-old driver of the box truck and two people in the Mercedes -- a 28-year-old man and 29-year-old woman -- were injured. They were taken to the hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

Other drivers pulled over to help the victims, and some residents who live nearby ran down a hillside to also assist.

CHP officials said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
