SAN DIEGO – A woman was seriously injured after she fell into the ocean Tuesday night in the Sunset Cliffs area.

At about 8:15 p.m. the woman was with some friends when she somehow fell into the water and was pulled out to sea by a strong rip current.

A Good Samaritan told 10News the woman appeared to be struggling in the water and her head was hitting against the rocks. He jumped in to try and help her before lifeguards arrived to the scene.

"I was just yelling at her, motivating her to stay up, telling her to stay away from breaking waves, to swim out,” witness Sean Hanrahan said. “Once there was a lull in the set, I went in after her."

Lifeguards arrived and pulled the woman out of the water. She was taken to a nearby hospital with head injuries. Her condition Wednesday was not confirmed.
