A group of people opposed to privatizing the Escondido Library held a protest today and announced the filing of a lawsuit to stop the city from moving forward with it's plans.

Attorney Alan Geraci filed the suit on behalf of a longtime Escondidio couple and says the city has no legal right to outsource library services.

Back in October the council voted to approve a contract with Maryland based Library Systems and Services.

Those in favor said the move would save $4 million in the next ten years in operational costs and more than that in future pension payouts.

The city attorney's office says the lawsuit is without merit. and told 10News in a statement.:

The city will aggressively defend the action and potentially seek sanctions for this frivolous lawsuit.
