SAN DIEGO – A man was apprehended at gunpoint early Tuesday morning, accused of throwing a large rock at a car as it was traveling on State Route 163 in Mission Valley, shattering its windshield.

The driver, Yousif Orlaha, told 10News he was driving home from the hospital with his cousin when the windshield of his car was smashed by a rock as he was getting onto SR-163 at Friars Road.

When Orlaha pulled over to examine the damage, he discovered a man screaming racial slurs at him. A verbal altercation then led to a fight. California Highway Patrol officers eventually arrived and arrested the man at gunpoint. CHP said the suspect appeared to be homeless and suffering from mental issues.

Orlaha and his cousin sustained minor injuries in the fight. They returned to the hospital to get treatment.

The rock also damaged the hood and broke the roof console.
