SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A fire ripped through a Poway home Wednesday night, forcing a man to flee in search for two of his cats that may have been inside at the time.
The fire broke out at a home in the 12000 block of Roberto Way, just off Pomerado Road, shortly before 10:30 p.m., according to San Diego fire officials.
A man told 10News he was awake inside the house when it began to fill with smoke. As the fire began to burn the front of the house, the man rushed to the back to look for his two black cats.
Fire crews arrived to find the house completely engulfed in flames, with smoke filling the neighborhood. Crews found the man in the backyard still searching for the cats. He suffered minor smoke inhalation, but he did not require medical treatment.
As of 5:30 a.m., it is unclear if the cats escaped the fire.
Firefighters were able to knock down the fire in about 15 minutes.
The cause of the blaze remains unknown, but 10News learned the sheriff department's Bomb/Arson Unit was summoned to aid in the fire investigation.
