ESCONDIDO, Calif. – Escondido police are searching for a driver who slammed a truck into a power pole overnight, leaving it dangling precariously over an adjacent business.

At around 12:30 a.m. Friday, Escondido police responded to West 2nd Avenue and South Quince Street to find an abandoned pickup truck that had smashed into a power pole, splintering the base. The pole was leaning forward, in danger of collapsing onto a building belonging to Escondido Truck Repair.

Escondido Fire Department crews responded, along with San Diego Gas & Electric. They taped the area off and shut down the southbound lanes of Quince Street. There was no word on how long it would take to repair the damage.

Police were still looking for the driver. There were no reported injuries.
