SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Expect heavy traffic in North, Central and South San Diego County this week with big events like the Del Mar races, Comic-Con and the start of a new school year.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club racing season starts Wednesday morning with opening day and runs through September 4 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.

Chula Vista and Sweetwater schools start their new year Wednesday.

Comic-Con starts Wednesday and runs through Sunday downtown.

Ace Parking, which manages more than a dozen lots downtown, made reserved parking available downtown. All of Ace's spaces are sold out for Friday and most for Saturday, according to Kristen Ludwick of Ace Parking.

CHP Officer Jake Sanchez said drivers should "pack their patience" during this busy time, especially along Interstate 5.

Caltrans has portable freeway signs in place near downtown and Del Mar to warn drivers of delays, said Hayden Manning of Caltrans.
