SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A gunman opened fire inside a Scripps Ranch convenience store Thursday night, pistol-whipping a clerk before fleeing from the scene.
The robbery and attack happened just after 9:40 p.m. at the Market at the Ranch store in the 10000 block of Scripps Trail, according to San Diego police.
Police said an armed man entered the store, confronted a store clerk and demanded money.
As the clerk was getting the gunman the money, the gunman pistol-whipped him twice, according to police. The gunman then told the clerk to go inside the safe, but when he said he could not, the gunman fired shots into the wall behind the clerk.
Police said the gunman took an unknown amount of cash and fled the store.
The clerk was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury to his head.
The gunman was described as black, 30-40 years old, 6 feet and weighs about 215 pounds. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his face and dark pants.
No customers were in the store when the gunman entered.
