SAN DIEGO -- Two men toting a gun and a machete attempted to rob a South Park-area 7-Eleven store Monday morning but fled empty-handed when the clerk ran off, police said.
The would-be robbers entered the convenience store at the corner of Fern and Hawthorn streets shortly after 2:30 a.m., prompting the employee to bolt from the business "to avoid being victimized," San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros said.
Police described one of the suspects as Hispanic, about 5-foot-7 and heavyset. He was wearing a mask, a hooded sweatshirt and jeans. The other was Hispanic, about 6 feet tall and wearing a black shirt and jeans.
