3 ways to give back in San Diego on Giving Tuesday

Posted

SAN DIEGO — If stories and viral videos about Black Friday shoppers brawling in malls and trashing shoe stores have disgusted you, be prepared to be invigorated with the holiday spirit today #GivingTuesday -- the global day of giving back.

Join us for the kickoff of our Month of a Million Meals campaign! We're partnering with Live Well San Diego and Feeding San Diego to raise enough money to buy 1 million meals for San Diegans in need this holiday season. Watch 10News starting at 4 p.m. and look for the number on your screen to donate. $1 = 4 meals!

We've been inspired to gather a small list of reputable #GivingTuesday opportunities in San Diego for you and your family to consider supporting:

  • GivingTuesday Wine & Paint Celebration benefiting the Autism Society of San Diego. Enjoy wine from 57 Degrees while you're led by a professional artist to recreate a painting while enjoying music, socializing and noshing. The Autism Society supports local families with recreational and educational opportunities all year long.
  • Girls on the Run San Diego's Year-End Fundraising Campaign. This character development program for girls in third through eighth grade encourages youngsters to compete 5K runs and give back to their own communities through projects like Hearst Elementary's creation of chew toys for military working dogs. They're trying to $5,000 to serve 20 girls.
  • 1st Saturdays. Every first Saturday a group of San Diegans who want to help end homelessness gather to put together care packages that are distributed to the homeless. They would benefit from your donation to buy bulk supplies like soap, razors and hand sanitizers.
