FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) - Firefighters battled flames along southbound Interstate 15 in Rainbow Monday afternoon.
The 1.6-acre blaze, first reported to the California Highway Patrol at 12:58 p.m., prompted the temporary closure of I-15 and snarled traffic for miles.
All lanes of I-15 in the area were re-opened by 5 p.m.
The fire briefly threatened homes in Oak Crest Estates but no evacuations were ordered, said officials.
North County Fire Protection District tweeted that crews stopped the fire's forward progress by about 1:40 p.m. and the blaze was 100 percent contained by 6 p.m., according to Cal Fire.
