NEAR LOMPOC, Calif. – A Ventura County firefighter was killed Wednesday while on duty battlingthe Canyon Fireburning near Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County.
Fire Engineer Ryan Osler died in a vehicle accident, according to a post on the Ventura County Fire Department’s Facebook page. A second firefighter involved in the crash sustained minor injuries.
The Canyon Fire has burned 12,272 acres and is 45 percent contained as of early Wednesday.
About 1,000 firefighters from across the state were battling the fire.
