A late-morning fire gutted a boat being stored in front of an Encanto-area home Wednesday.
The non-injury blaze in the 6800 block of Brooklyn Avenue erupted for unknown reasons shortly after 11 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. It took crews less than 10 minutes to subdue the intense flames, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said.
The boat's owner told 10News that he just spent $6,000 to fix it and get it running again.
He said he was working on the boat -- called the Mistress -- and fired up an engine when he heard a pop sound. At that point, a fire started and spread quickly.
The fire was isolated to the boat and did not spread to the house, fire officials said. The blaze did burn an AT&T wire on a nearby pole.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
