EL CAJON, Calif. – An El Cajon police officer was taken to a hospital with injuries after his patrol car was rear-ended in El Cajon early Thursday morning.

Just before 2 a.m. an officer was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Main Street and South Mollison Avenue, about a block from El Cajon Valley High School, when a Volkswagen sedan traveling east on Main Street rear-ended his car.

The officer was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital after complaining of head and neck pain. His condition was not confirmed. The three people in the Volkswagen, including a small child, were not hurt.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, El Cajon police said.

The crash remains under investigation.
