FALLBROOK, Calif. - Authorities Monday publicly identified a 57-year-old homicide victim whose partially decomposed body was found in a remote, rural neighborhood near Fallbrook.
Gilberto Martinez, who also went by Gilberto Martinez Tinoco, was found dead early Thursday evening off Via del Gavilan near Ranchitos Road, sheriff's Lt. Kenneth Nelson said.
A subsequent autopsy on Martinez's remains determined he died of blunt-force injuries to the upper body, and his death was ruled a homicide, according to the lieutenant. No suspect information was immediately available.
Nelson asked anyone with additional information about the bludgeoning death to call the sheriff's department at (858) 974-2321, or after business hours at (858) 565-5200. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
